Among tens Takoyaki stalls in Dotonbori, Creo-ru seems to be the most outstanding with a huge signboard as well as its unique recipe of making Takoyaki. Creo-ru is a brand born in February of 1999 in Higashiyodogawa district and now flowering to numerous branches over the city. The one located in Dotonbori lies right in the middle of the shopping and eating street. Together with a big Takoyaki grill and a small six-seat counter on the ground floor, the restaurant features a large second floor of 70 seats serving Takoyaki, Okonomiyaki and Kushikatsu.

Takoyaki becomes more and more popular even over the world as the number one street food from Japan so a large part of people get familiar with it but they may not know that it actually originate from Osaka. It is a kind of a deep fried ball shaped mixture of wheat flour and diced octopus covered by mayonnaise and takoyaki sauce. Creo-ru serves a completely different style of Takoyaki, bigger chunks of octopus and thinner outer skin, more solid with deliciously charred skin and stronger ginger flavor, much softer and more mushy. As the batter is softer, its soaks up all the sauce to make a more charming taste. People say that Takoyaki of Creo-ru is a kind of modern takoyaki as it is topped with cheese, spring onions but mayonnaise. Anchovy mayonnaise with black olives, ume-shiso, and truffle oil are some variations beside the popular sauce choices.

It is easy to see the bustle in front of Creo-ru Takoyaki stall when you stand to wait your Takoyaki serving and incidentally watch the way of making takoyaki in spot and admiring the way skillful hands creating such perfect round balls. They have to handle about 100 balls at once but they are professional enough to flip the takoyaki in the right time. It will take about only several seconds for takoyaki to be taken into a styrofoam box and placed into your hands and you even feel it crackling in boiling hot.

How to access: 

From Tokyo Station: take JR Tokaido Shinkansen Line for 2 hours and 30 minutes from Tokyo Station to Shin-Osaka Station. Take a subway for 15 minutes from Shin-Osaka Station to Namba Station.

From Nagoya station: take JR Tokaido Shinkansen Line for 50 min from Nagoya Station to Shin-Osaka Station. Take a subway for 15 minutes from Shin-Osaka Station to Namba Station

Then take a 5 minutes walk from Namba Station of Subway Midosuji Line (exit No.14to Dotonbori. Creo-ru is located quite next to Tazaemon-bashi Bridge
