Rain season is coming to Kansai region from June to July and we do know you are planning for hiding from wet at home or some other places better than going around under the rough rain to see everything crushed into ruin. That is because you have not already known about a mystery existence of a princess shinning such the most charming and elegant color in gloomy continual rain- Hydrangea, also called Ajisai in Japanese. Let’s discover 7 out of many palaces of this princess around Kansai region!

Osaka Prefecture Forest - Nukata Garden - Osaka ( 府民の森 ぬかた園地 )

Located about 500 meters above sea level, hydrangea season at Nukata Garden will comer 2 or 3 weeks later than others. Even it is a little hard to find the hiden orchard deep in a park of Mountain Ikoma which is out of the straight way, it is worth finding as you will be overwhelmed by about 25000 bushes of hydrangea from 30 species blooming at largest scale across the prefecture.

Mimurotoji Temple - Kyoto ( 三室戸寺 )
Hydrangea will cover the 5000 square meter garden of Mimurotoji Temple by more than 20000 bushes of rare species from Western, including the rare hydrangea of seven-layer blossom. The special heart shaped hydrangea also contributes over 1 million blossoms to the garden to make numerous of pink and blue hearts floating over green waves overwhelming the temples.

Maizuru Natural Culture Garden - Kyoto ( 舞鶴自然文化園 )
Wedging into the short and hot space between spring of camellia and autumn of red leaves, summer brings into about 50000 hydrangea plants of about 60 different varieties covering the precinct of Maizuru Natural Culture garden. It can be described as millions of blue, white and pink dots rolling over the hill down to the valley, such an amazing scene.

Yatadera Temple - Nara ( 矢田寺 )
People even call Yatadera the Hydrangea Temple thanks to its gorgeous collection covering the area of 2.5 hectares of more than 10000 brushes of 60 hydrangea species. Hydrangea has been little by little planted and raised since 1965 then it keeps the secret history of the temple. Gregarious hydrangea stays by the main hall, old giant trees, stone staues around the temple, getting close and loving every corners of Yatadera temple.

Kobe Municipal Arboretum - Kobe ( 神戸市立森林植物園 )
Kobe Municipal Arboretum is considered as the best place to enjoy hydrangea- the official flower of Kobe- across the city. The season will see approximately 50000 hydrangea bushes of 25 species blooming over the mountain area. Rare species such as Shishidanka and Koidzumi together with Hydrangea hirta and Hydrangea macrophylla will be present here. A special walk called Ajisai Sampo is even created only for Hydrangea enjoying.

Yogoko Ajisai garden - Shiga ( 余呉湖 あじさい園 )
Yogoko garden is the only one among 7 spots having hydrangea blooming by water. Perhaps hydrangea here receives steam from the lake, they become young and full of vitality. Over 10000 bushes of blue and white hydrangea will occupy the lakeside, together with the water surface creating the most poetic picture of a year.

Mandara Garden - Wakayama ( あじさい曼荼羅園 )
Over 1 million of colorful hydrangea of 120 different species will float over the area of more than 2000 square meters of Mandara Park in Wakayama. Hydrangea was started to be planted here in 1985 to reach this impressive collection by now. The garden will be open all day during hydrangea season and they will hold some festival for hydrangea seeing.
